8. Elizabeth McCracken led the Lady Warriors with 11 points as the team shot 85% from the charity stripe to secure an 11 point victory over Deer Park last night in CHL action. The JV Lady Warrios, anchored by Ally Croll, Hali Taylor, Meagan Turner, Leach Grant Emille Beaver and Julia Ayerbe tallied an impressive 30-18 win over Deer Park. Both teams are back in action Saturday here vs CHL leader Indian Hill. JV tipoff at noon followed by varsity at 1:30.

7. Today we are on a one hour early dismissal schedule so that we can hold an all school assembly at the end of the day in the auditorium. Members of the Remember Alex Brown Foundation will be here this afternoon to share their own personal experience about the dangers of texting while driving. This assembly has been held at a number of high schools in the area and has been well received by drivers and soon-to-be drivers.

10. Attention Mr. Hanley, start your timer because the swim teams had an amazing meet last night. Our Water Warriors honored their 11 Seniors with a commanding victory over CCD. All 3 Girls’ relay pool records were smashed by Rebecca Adams, Lindsey Serraino, Mackenzie Shelley, Claire Mongenas and Claire Gilmore. The 200 Medley Relay of Shelley, Mongenas, Gilmore and Adams also broke the Varsity record. Other incredible time drops were turned in by Julia Gaburo, Ben Gorman, Luke Porst, Mara Coyan, Ingrid Mongenas, Maddie Richards, Emmett Saulnier, Audrey Helmrich, Mackenzie Kaschalck, Jennifer Saxton, Haley Schooler and Makayla Valentine. Special mention to our two boy divers, Hans Heinbaugh and McKinnon Pennell, on their first meet. Good luck this weekend as the Warriors compete in the CHL Championships here on Saturday.

3. MHS has a unique opportunity to host high school girls from Hapur, India for three weeks this April 2012. With our friends from Madeira High School, we are currently looking for Sophomore, Junior and Senior girls who would be willing to host these girls from India in their homes during their stay in Mariemont. Our world is growing more and more connected and hosting a student is a great way to meet people from around the world and learn first-hand our commonalities while also respecting our diversity. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity or are interested in hosting a student, please let Mr. Renner know by January 30th.

4. Strong offensive and defensive board work by Elizabeth McCracken, Elizabeth Keller, Meredith Garrison, Haley Jacobs and Shelby Krimmer propelled the Lady Warriors to a 16 point victory at Finneytown last night.  Julia Whittelsey led the scoring with 24 points including 4 treys while Emma Griffith chipped in 10 and Abby Mathis added another 4.  The team travels to rival Madeira Saturday for a 1:30 tip off.  Action begins at noon with the JV squad.

Congratulations to our 2012 regional Scholastic Art Awards Winners.  Hundreds of students from Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky submit artwork to this regional and national art competition.  Our Mariemont High School Visual Arts Department is proud to announce that 16 students received awards this year.  They are:

4. Congratulations to the Lady Warriors on a pivotal CHL victory over Wyoming this past Saturday. Balanced scoring and an intense defensive effort resulted in a 7 point win.

5. Settle in because the Swim Teams had an amazing weekend. Our Water Warriors competed in the largest swim meet in the nation and came away with some incredible accomplishments. Nate Wagner proved to be the fastest man in the water winning the 100 Free. Sam McManus powered his way to victory in the 50 Breast. Claire Gilmore notched not only a win, but also set a Southwest Classic record with her 100 I.M. Claire was also 2nd in the 50 Fly and 10th in the 50 Free. Claire Mongenas finished 3rd in the 100 Breast, 7th in the 200 Breast and 10th in the 200 I.M. Nate was 3rd in the 200 Free. Connor McManus was 9th in the 50 Fly. The Girls’ relays were awe inspiring. Both the 200 Medley (Maddie Richards, Claire Mongenas, Claire Gilmore, Rebecca Adams) and the 400 Medley (Mackenzie Shelley, Claire Mongenas, Claire Gilmore, Lindsey Serraino) were 9th. Most impressive were the 200 Free (Mackenzie Shelley, Rebecca Adams, Lindsey Serraino, Claire Gilmore) and the 400 Free (Mackenzie Shelley, Claire Mongenas, Lindsey Serraino, Claire Gilmore) that were 2nd. The 400 Free Relay broke the 17 year old school record! Way to represent Warriors and keep it going this weekend against Turpin.

4. Attend the Girls’ Basketball game tonight and receive a limited edition Warrior Water Bottle. Come out and support your Lady Warriors as they battle the Taylor Yellow Jackets.

5. Auditions for the musical Annie will be today & tomorrow after school on stage. Students who wish to audition must attend both days of auditions. Audition music is available in front of Mrs. McGahey’s office.

6. Seniors accepted at Ohio State and planning to attend there are reminded that the deadline for the OSU Alumni Scholarship is January 13th. Packets are available in the guidance office.

7. The Girls’ Swim Team remains undefeated as they recorded an overwhelming victory over Wyoming on Saturday. The Boys’ Team put up a good fight but suffered their first defeat of the season. Individual event winners were Mackenzie Shelley, Nate Wagner, Claire Mongenas, Claire Gilmore and Mac Lewis. Impressive time drops were turned in by Julia Gaburo, George Koglmeier, Katie Miller, Emmett Saulnier, Nick Walter, Audrey Helmrich, Carly Stelzer and Makayla Valentine. Good Luck to the Water Warriors as they compete in the largest swim meet in the nation this weekend.

3. Auditions for this year’s musical “Annie” will be held next Wednesday and Thursday after school. Students wishing to audition must attend both days of auditions. Look for song excerpts to come out by the end of the week. Questions? Talk to Mrs. McGahey or Ms. Lowery.

4. There will be a meeting in C-20 Friday after school for Boys Lacrosse players. The meeting will take about 20 minutes. Please plan to attend if you can.

5. Attention Unified for Unifat Members: We need to decide what our theme will be for this Saturday’s “I Dance”. Come to a meeting in Mrs. Leatherwood’s room Friday after school to help decide. Everyone is invited to the I Dance this Saturday at Moeller High School from 8-11. Cost is $10.00 and you get two glowsticks at the door!

2. Boys who are interested in playing baseball this Spring need to attend a meeting today after school in C-20.

3. NHS Officers: There is a brief meeting after school Thursday in Room 9 to plan our upcoming service project.

4. All NHS Members: Please attend a brief meeting Monday after school in C-20 to plan our next service project.

5. Seniors who had their pictures taken by Happy Girl Photography need to submit their senior portraits to the yearbook staff, as Happy Girl is not sending electronic versions of the photos.

6. Are you interested in a healthcare career? The Dan Beard Council is partnering with Children’s Hospital in offering high school students an opportunity to meet with health care professionals, do hands-on experiential activities, do on-site visits and much more. Registration for this program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Liberty Township location is required by January 16th. See the flier in the guidance office for information.

7. Sophomores who are taking the PLAN test tomorrow, Thursday January 5th, are reminded to report directly to the Commons by 7:45 am. No late comers will be admitted. A list of students taking the test has been given to the teachers. So, if you’re not sure you’ve signed up, please check with your teachers. Be sure to bring a #2 pencil and a calculator.

  2. Boys who are interested in playing baseball this Spring need to attend a meeting Wednesday after school in C-20.   
  3. Over the break the Swim Teams traveled to Toledo for the Knight Invitational.  The Girls’ Team earned the Runner-Up trophy while the Boys’ Team finished a strong 6th out of over 30 teams.  One of the highlights was Junior, Claire Mongenas breaking the 15 year old Varsity record in the 100 Breaststroke.  Her time, along with the 400 free relay of Claire Gilmore, Rebecca Adams, Lindsey Serraino and Mackenzie Shelley were also meet records.  There are far too many impressive swims to name them all.  Let’s “Pack The Pool” this Thursday to see our Water Warriors battle Madeira.
