SUMMER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  Mrs. O’Cull, who is Mariemont’s physical therapist, is looking for high school students who would like to help with her summer camp that will be located at the high school starting July 11 through August 15.  This camp will consist of children who will be participating in this camp that will involve them in various types of exercise and social opportunities.  Also, Mrs. O’Cull is looking for a student who may want to assist in photography and coordinating a DVD with pictures/music that can be shared with the children and their families at the end of camp.  If interested in volunteering, contact Melissa O’Cuill at mocull@mariemontschools.org

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boys Varsity Track and Field team for placing 4th at Districts.  Those moving on to Regionals next Thursday/Saturday at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium are Nathan Kuck, Connor McManus, Hans Hinebaugh, Luke Porst, Bryan Routt, Garrett Welch and Ben Gorman.  Nathan Kuck was the Division II District Champ in the 800 meter run.  Good Luck Warriors!!

  1. CONGRATULATIONS to the JV Boys who won the first annual East Side JV Boys Lacrosse Tourney with victories over Wyoming and Moeller yesterday. Goals were scored by Nick Weston, Ryden Lewis, Chris Cascella, Connor Bortz and Sander Henning in the final 5-1 win over the Moeller Crusaders. Sam Long and his hustling pesky defense held Moeller to one goal in the first half and scoreless in the second. This concludes an outstanding JV Boys Season with an 11-2 overall record and a City Championship. Congratulations to Coach Miller and all the players on a job well done. 
  2. THE BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE TEAM won their last regular season game against Summit 14-12 on Saturday night. Scoring contributions were made by Beach, Fries, Bausmith, Isles, Long, Heffner and Saffin. Rolander had 14 saves. The warriors will face Summit again on Saturday night at home for the first post-season tournament game. 
  3. CONGRATULATIONS to the Boys Varsity Track and Field team for placing 2nd at the CHL Championships. Those placing first in their events were Connor McManus, Garrett Welch, Bryan Routt and Nathan Kuck (who was also named Co-Runner of the Meet with his 3 first place finishes). Coach Dixon and Coach Timmers were named Coaches of the Year for the CHL Boys and girls teams respectively. The top placers for the girls were Karyn Georgilis in the Pole Vault and Meagan Turner in the 100 meter dash. The teams will be competing at New Richmond this week for the Division II District Championships. Good luck Warriors in your quest for a trip to State!!

TODAY the CHL Track and Field Championships will be held right here at MHS starting at 5:00 pm.  We need all Warrior fans to come and cheer us on to victory!!!  Since the CHL started, the Boys team has never won the title.  With your cheers and encouragement, we just may be able to make that happen.  Today the Track/Field team….next Saturday the baseball team.  And ironically it is against the same team….WYOMING!!
  6. MARIEMONT’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM wrapped up it’s regular season last night with a 15-11 win over neighbor Cincinnati Country Day.  The Warriors were led by Kaila Roberts and Madison Saffin with 5 goals apiece.  Natalie Utt had 3 assists and Alice Barnes kept adding to her recent assist numbers with 2 more helpers.  The Warriors finished the 2012 regular season campaign 11-2-1, ranked third in the state in Division II.  Mariemont begins postseason play at Kusel Field next Thursday at 6:00

THE LADY WARRIORS LACROSSE TEAM sent their seniors out in style with a 14-9 win over Ursuline Academy last night.  Seniors Kaila Roberts and Elizabeth Keller helped lead the Warriors’ scoring with goals and Catherine Kemper and Hannah Reeder helped smother the Lions’ offense.  Julia Ayerbe played key minutes in crunch time and Elizabeth McCracken provided coaching, inspirational leadership and a winning smile.  This brings the Warriors’ record to 10-2-1 on the season.  Mariemont finished it’s regular season Thursday at Cincinnati Country Day at 5:30.

  1. CHEERLEADING CLINIC DATES AND TRYOUT DATE have been changed to accommodate spring sport athletes. Clinic dates will be May 7th & 9th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and the tryout date will be Friday, May 11th starting at 4:30 p.m. These tryouts are for the high school football and basketball cheer squads. Warrior scoring was led by Alice Barnes with 2 goals and 5 assists and Madison Saffin with 6 goals. Tuesday night the Warriors will honor their seniors and host Ursuline at 6:00 and 7:30.

  2. THE BOYS LACROSSE TEAM traveled to Bishop Fenwick on Wednesday and dominated 4 quarters of play for a 20-2 win. Scoring contributions were made by Max Long, Macko Saffin, Jimmy Beach, Cal Fries, Cole DeCamp, Griffin Rolander, Connor bortz and Alex Heffner. Defense held the opponent to 4 goals. Joe Rolander had 5 saves and Max Long had 3 saves. Come support the warriors against Indian Hill this weekend. JV faces off at Indian Hill tonight at 7:30. Varsity plays on Saturday at home at 7:30.

CONGRATULATIONS to the following 2012 Cappies niminess: Katie Arends/Creativity (student director; Lizzie Deadrick and Emma Welch/Best Ensemble; Emma Welch/Best Supporting Actress; Braxton Stricker/Best Supporting Actor; The cast and crew of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead/Best Play/ and the Cappies critic team/Best Critic Team. Final awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on Saturday, May 26th.

THE LADY WARRIORS LACROSSE team fell behind 9-0 against State #4 Sycamore, but after a strong comeback bid, fell just a little short 12-8.  Mariemont’s scoring was led by Freshman Natalie Utt and Senior Kaila Roberts with 3 goals apiece and Madison Saffin and Elizabeth Keller each adding 1.  The Warriors next travel to face Lakota West on Tuesday.

The Warriors were led by senior Kaila Roberts with 5 goals, Elizabeth McCracken and Madison Saffin with 3 apiece. Haley Weston added 2 goals and an assist and Alice Barnes and Natalie Utt each had 1. Mariemont travels back up north tonight to play at New Albany, #1 in Ohio.

Come cheer on the Warriors against St. X on Wednesday at home. JV faces off at 5:30 and Varsity faces of at 7:30.

The Warriors’ defense of Catherine Kemper, Polly Brittingham, Katie Miller, Kendall Harden and Annie Wirthlin forced the opposition to work for every shot and Julia Whittlsey and Mara Coyan made big saves. The Warriors face Seven Hills tonight at Kusel stadium at 7:00.

  8. THIS IS the last week to bring in books! Bring in gently used books for underprivileged elementary students in grades K-8 by next Monday, April 23rd and win cookies and milk in your English class. 
  9. MARIEMONT’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM upped its record to 5-0 with a 15-8 win over Division II rival Summit Country Day. The Warriors got off to a slow start but were bolstered by a very strong defensive effort led by Polly Brittingham with 2 caused turnovers and Katie Miller with 5 groundballs and excellent goaltending by junior Mara Coyan who had 11 saves on the evening. Mariemont’s offense was led by Elizabeth McCracken with 6 goals and 3 assists and Maddison Saffin with 5 goals. The Warriors next travel to Columbus this weekend for the Hannigan-Galipult Invitational Tournament.

Scoring for the warriors were Jimmy Beach with 4 goals, Max Long and Billy Bausmith with 2 goals each and Cole DeCamp, Cal Fries and Macko Saffin each with one goal. Joe Rolander had 12 saves. Next up: Mason on Wednesday night at Mason.

  6. The results of the 2012 National Latin Exam have arrived and a number of our Mariemont Latin scholars have been honored. Freshman Christopher Benson completed a perfect sheet. Of the 52,000 exams taken worldwide at that level, there were only 260 perfect sheets. The following students also received the highest rating, summa cum laude, and a gold medal: Juniors Kyle Matz and Mara Coyan; Sophomores Ryden Lewis, Evan Doran, David Quiambao, Kendall Harden and Abby Moreton; Freshmen Addie Shelly, Will Majchszak, Julianna Overbey, Sarah Stewart, Sara Gaburo, Chris Cascella, Andi Christopher, Lindsey Siegfried, Hunter Thiers, Graham McCarthy, Kayla Wood, Steven Hassey and Cooper Hayes.   8. The Warriors Women’s lacrosse team fought past a very determined and physical Seton team last night 13-11 to stay undefeated at 4-0. Mariemont’s scoring was led by Elizabeth McCracken with 5 goals, Kaila Roberts with 3, and Haley Weston with 2. Elizabeth Keller, Allie Howe and Maddie Arends added one apiece. Mariemont next hosts Summit at Kusel field Tuesday night. JV at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:30.

Elizabeth McCracken added 4 goals and an assist, Elizabeth Keller 3, Alice Barnes 2 goals and 2 assists, Haley Weston 2, Madison LeMay 2, Allie Howe 1 goal and 3 assists. Junior net-minder Mara Coyan backed up another solid Warrior defensive performance. The Warriors are on the road to play Seton this evening; JV at 5:00, varsity at 6:15.

The Christ Hospital is looking for reliable, self-motivated volunteers for their Summer Junior Volunteer Program. Students must be between the ages of 14 and 18. Information and applications are available in the guidance office.
  3. ATTENTION KEY CLUB MEMBERS – There will be a meeting today after school in C-20 for those interested in running for next year’s officers. Drop a nomination form to Mrs. Bell by Monday morning

  7. Help the underprivileged and get food! Leadership Council and Book Club are having a book drive. Bring in gently used books to your English teacher on Monday, April 9th through Monday, April 23rd for underprivileged elementary kids. Help us reach our goal of 500 books. The English teacher who collects the most books will receive enough cookies and milk for all of their classes.
  8. MARIEMONT’S WOMENS LACROSS TEAM brought it’s record to 2-0 with a resounding 13-7 win over the Mason Comets Satuday. Senior captains Kaila Roberts and Elizabeth McCracken led Warrior scoring with 5 goals each on the day. Alice Barnes, Madison Safin and Allie Howe rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. The star of the game, however may have been a Warrior defense that smothered Mason and kept them to only one goal in the first half. Senior captain Catherine Kemper, Polly Brittingham, Katie Miller, Kendal Hardin and Abby Moreton were relentless on the Comet offense and the few attempts that did get through were put down by freshman keeper Julia Whittlsey who had an outstanding day with 9 saves on 16 shots.

They were Peter Laug and Caleb Middlebrook.

  1. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training will be held at Mariemont High School beginning April 18th. This training will enable you to work at any pool in the USA. Registration forms and information is available in the Guidance Office. 
  2. ATTENTION BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS: There will be a short 5 minute meeting after school on Tuesday in the gym for all players interested in playing basketball next year.

  4. We’d like to wish our Mariemont High School Destination Imagination teams the best of luck as they compete at the regional level. The seniors on the team “In Conclusion” and the freshmen on the “U.B.W. Champs 2011” will present their challenge solutions at the Live Oaks Campus in Milford on Saturday. First place teams in each challenge category will move on to the State Tournament in April. Good luck to all students competing! Go Warriors! 
  5. GOOD LUCK to the Mariemont Drumline as they compete in the Tri-State Circuit Championships. Right now they are ranked first in their division and are trying to bring home the championship title. The competition is Saturday at Ryle High School in Florence, KY. They perform at 3:15 and would love to have a huge crowd there cheering them on. Good luck drumline!!!!

  3. A West Point Cadet will be here today at 1:00 to speak with students interested in learning about life at West Point Academy. Come to the guidance office to learn more about this exciting experience.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ohio DECA Participants: Sander Henning and John Peck for receiving recognition on their Public Relations Manual, Nick Fries for placing in the top 10 in Food Marketing, and Jon Hanley for placing in the top 10 in Principles of Marketing. Any student from last year’s or last semester’s Wealth Management courses wishing to take the United States Treasury’s Financial Literacy test, should see Mrs. Baas this week. 
  5. CONGRATULATIONS to the Mariemont Drumline for winning 1st place at their competition this weekend at Milford High School. They will compete next Saturday afternoon at Ryle High School at the Tri-State Circuit Championships. Good luck next weekend!

  2. A reminder to winter sports athletes that tonight is the winter sports awards. Refreshments in the Commons at 6:30 and the program begins a 7pm in the gym. 
  3. CONGRATULATIONS TO The MARIEMONT HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND for earning the highest possible rating of “Superior” at the Ohio Music Education Association District 14 Large Group Contest on Friday at Harrison High School. The band received straight “Superior” ratings from every judge which qualifies them to compete in the State Large Group Competition in a few weeks. They were one of only two bands out of 10 in their division to qualify for State competition. Congratulations Band for this outstanding accomplishment!!

  1. The Village of Mariemont Swimming Pool is accepting applications for: Head and Assistant Swim Coach, swim instructors, lifeguards, concession stand, and front desk. Applications available at the Municipal Building. 
  2. The Little Miami and Mariemont Fire Departments will be selling t-shirts this Saturday at Kroger from 10-5 in a combined effort to aid the March 2, 2012 Tornado victims. Stop by Saturday and get your shirt or make a donation. A sample of the shirt is on display in the front trophy case. 
  3. A representative from Wilberforce University will be here to speak with interested students on Tuesday at 1:00. Students should come to the guidance office. 
  4. Mr. Goetz’s students are to report to study hall today. 
  5. Don’t forget to set your clocks forward 1 hour Sunday morning. 
  6. The Varsity roster for Track and Field will be set after today. If you wish to join and have not done so, today is the last day. See Mr. Dixon today to confirm your position on the team.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS to all students that attended the TSA TEAMS Competition at the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday. The team of Katie Arends, Will Dietz, James Donnelly, Kate Hassey, Max Long, Mackenzie Shelley, Bryan Routt and Michael Weston won 1st Place in the region for Division III schools. This 1st place win earns a member of the team a $5000 scholarship to the College of Engineering & Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati.

    Their winning art works will go to Columbus next weekend for state judging. Students whose works are selected at the state level will have their art works on display at the Ohio Department of Education and the Governor’s Office in Columbus. In addition students chosen at the state level will be recognized at an awards ceremony, and also be eligible for scholarships. Good luck and congratulations to our 5 winners!

  3. Terrace Park Country Club is seeking to add some new caddies this season. Any student at least 14 years old can apply. No prior experience required. An organizational meeting will be held next Tuesday, March 6 at 4:00. See the flier in the Guidance Office for further information. 
  4. AFS Club members are reminded to attend the International Potluck dinner tonight starting promptly at 6:00 pm in the high school commons.
