  1. STUDENTS INTERESTED in trying out for the 2012-13 Varsity and JV Cheerleading squads for football and basketball should attend clinic dates on May 7, 8 and 9 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the high school auxiliary gym.  Tryouts will be May 10th from  5:30 to 7:30 pm.  Please see the announcement page on www.mariemontwarriors.org for more details.
  2. CONGRATULATIONS to the Mariemont High School Band for earning an “Excellent” rating at the OMEA State Concert Band Contest this past weekend at Gahanna Lincoln High School.  You played a fantastic program!  Your hard work, dedication and superb musicianship really showed this weekend.  Congratulations!!
  3. SPANISH CLUB MEMBERS:  Please attend a brief meeting after school Tuesday, May 1 in the Spanish room area.  We will discuss end of year activities and plan for next year.
  4. CHEERLEADING CLINIC DATES AND TRYOUT DATE have been changed to accommodate spring sport athletes.  Clinic dates will be May 7th & 9th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and the tryout date will be Friday, May 11th starting at 4:30 p.m.  These tryouts are for the high school football and basketball cheer squads.  See the Announcements page on http://www.mariemontwarriors.org.
  5. ATTENTION STUDENTS:  Officer elections are coming soon!  If interested, pick up a sheet on Mr. Hanley’s door.  Meetings are today after school and the deadline to file is Friday.
  6. CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of this year’s Mariemont High School Annual Photography Contest.  Out of the 203 entriest, 8 photos were chosen as winners.

THE LADY WARRIORS LACROSSE team fell behind 9-0 against State #4 Sycamore, but after a strong comeback bid, fell just a little short 12-8.  Mariemont’s scoring was led by Freshman Natalie Utt and Senior Kaila Roberts with 3 goals apiece and Madison Saffin and Elizabeth Keller each adding 1.  The Warriors next travel to face Lakota West on Tuesday.

Those placing first as an individual or on a relay were Nathan Kuck, Bryan Routt, Connor McManus, Garrett Welch and Emmet Saulnier. The team will be competing at home next Wednesday and Thursday for the McKee/Kiwanis Invitational. We hope you can come support both the girls and boys teams.

The event will be held in the Hall of Mirrors, located on the 3rd floor. If the hotel parking lot is full, park directly across the street on Race Street (Tower Place Parking Garage): the cost is usually $5.00 and there is a covered walkway to the hotel.

  5. THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM had their first victory of the season last night. They defeated Western Hills behind the pitching of Sarah Crabtree and big hits by Shelby Krimmer and Ryan Williams. The team hosts Reading today.

Exhibits must be taken down and all items put away on Thursday.

All MHS students who attend Prom will vote on Friday night; coronation of the Queen and King will occur at Prom.

  8. THE MARIEMONT WOMEN’S LACROSSE team brought their record to 8-0-1 last night with a 15-4 victory over Seven Hills last night. The Warriors were led by senior Kaila Roberts with 5 goals, Elizabeth McCracken and Madison Saffin with 3 apiece. Haley Weston added 2 goals and an assist and Alice Barnes and Natalie Utt each had 1. Mariemont travels back up north tonight to play at New Albany, #1 in Ohio. 
  9. REMINDER: Tomorrow is the last day to enter photos for the Mariemont Annual Photography Contest. Thus, all entries are due to Mrs. Richardson tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25th. Please turn in your entry forms and/or photos to either the office or Mrs. Richardson personally. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 8 photos.

  5. CONGRATULATIONS to the boys varsity lacrosse team for their 7-5 victory over Lakota West Saturday. Scoring for the warriors were Cole DeCamp, Max Long and Cal Fries with 2 goals each and Connor Bortz with one goal. Joe Rolander had 13 saves. Come cheer on the Warriors against St. X on Wednesday at home. JV faces off at 5:30 and Varsity faces of at 7:30.

  7. THE LADY WARRIORS LACROSSE TEAM travelled to Columbus this weekend, played three of the top teams in Ohio and brought back 2 wins and a tie to remain undefeated in the season 7-0-1. The Warriors’ defense of Catherine Kemper, Polly Brittingham, Katie Miller, Kendall Harden and Annie Wirthlin forced the opposition to work for every shot and Julia Whittlsey and Mara Coyan made big saves. The Warriors face Seven Hills tonight at Kusel stadium at 7:00.

THE FAST-pitch softball team had a solid performance in their contest against Indian Hill yesterday.  The defensive highlight of the game was the triple play the team recorded in the 3rd inning.  The girls play next at Indian Hill on Friday. 10.   9. MARIEMONT’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM upped its record to 5-0 with a 15-8 win over Division II rival Summit Country Day. The Warriors got off to a slow start but were bolstered by a very strong defensive effort led by Polly Brittingham with 2 caused turnovers and Katie Miller with 5 groundballs and excellent goaltending by junior Mara Coyan who had 11 saves on the evening. Mariemont’s offense was led by Elizabeth McCracken with 6 goals and 3 assists and Maddison Saffin with 5 goals. The Warriors next travel to Columbus this weekend for the Hannigan-Galipult Invitational Tournament.

  8. BICK’S DRIVING SCHOOL will be teaching a Driver’s Education class starting on May 7th immediately after school. Classes will be held from 3-7 on May 7, 8, 9, 10, 14 and 15. Cost is $350.00 See Mrs. Dunlap in the Counseling Office for information and registration. 
  9. CONGRATULATIONS to the boy’s lacrosse team for their hard fought win against Sycamore Saturday night. The warriors battled the rain and their opponent for the 11-10 win. Scoring for the warriors were Jimmy Beach with 4 goals, Max Long and Billy Bausmith with 2 goals each and Cole DeCamp, Cal Fries and Macko Saffin each with one goal. Joe Rolander had 12 saves. Next up: Mason on Wednesday night at Mason. 
  10. THANKS to everyone who participated in Key Club’s food drive this weekend. We raised $200 and an additional $500 worth of goods. 
  11. ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Prom tickets will be on sale THIS WEEK ONLY in the MHS cafeteria during both lunch bells. The cost is $75 per ticket or $150 for 2 tickets. No tickets will be sold if the student does not have his or her Prom Permission form. Blank forms will be available at the ticket table in the lunchroom or from Mrs. Toepfer in room 7. Students from the Oaks may purchase tickets from 3:00 until 4:00 in the main office from Mrs. Meyer. They also must present Prom permission forms at time of purchase. Prom guests who do not attend MHS?OAKS do NOT need permission forms.

  5. ALL NHS MEMBERS – there is a brief mandatory meeting Tuesday, May 17th immediately after school in C-20 to plan the Junior High Dance. 
  6. The results of the 2012 National Latin Exam have arrived and a number of our Mariemont Latin scholars have been honored. Freshman Christopher Benson completed a perfect sheet. Of the 52,000 exams taken worldwide at that level, there were only 260 perfect sheets. The following students also received the highest rating, summa cum laude, and a gold medal: Juniors Kyle Matz and Mara Coyan; Sophomores Ryden Lewis, Evan Doran, David Quiambao, Kendall Harden and Abby Moreton; Freshmen Addie Shelly, Will Majchszak, Julianna Overbey, Sarah Stewart, Sara Gaburo, Chris Cascella, Andi Christopher, Lindsey Siegfried, Hunter Thiers, Graham McCarthy, Kayla Wood, Steven Hassey and Cooper Hayes.   8. The Warriors Women’s lacrosse team fought past a very determined and physical Seton team last night 13-11 to stay undefeated at 4-0. Mariemont’s scoring was led by Elizabeth McCracken with 5 goals, Kaila Roberts with 3, and Haley Weston with 2. Elizabeth Keller, Allie Howe and Maddie Arends added one apiece. Mariemont next hosts Summit at Kusel field Tuesday night. JV at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:30.

  6. The Mariemont Warrior Women’s Lacrosse team improved to 3-0 last night with a 19-7 win over St. Ursula Academy. Madison Saffin led all scoring with 5 goals and an assist on the evening. Elizabeth McCracken added 4 goals and an assist, Elizabeth Keller 3, Alice Barnes 2 goals and 2 assists, Haley Weston 2, Madison LeMay 2, Allie Howe 1 goal and 3 assists. Junior net-minder Mara Coyan backed up another solid Warrior defensive performance. The Warriors are on the road to play Seton this evening; JV at 5:00, varsity at 6:15.

The Christ Hospital is looking for reliable, self-motivated volunteers for their Summer Junior Volunteer Program. Students must be between the ages of 14 and 18. Information and applications are available in the guidance office.
  3. ATTENTION KEY CLUB MEMBERS – There will be a meeting today after school in C-20 for those interested in running for next year’s officers. Drop a nomination form to Mrs. Bell by Monday morning
  4. Students, especially juniors, please consider attending the Spring College Fair at Xavier University. Over 150 colleges and universities will be represented. The fair will be on April 29 from noon until 2:00 pm at the Cintas Center. More details can be found at Xavier.edu/collegefair.

  7. Help the underprivileged and get food! Leadership Council and Book Club are having a book drive. Bring in gently used books to your English teacher on Monday, April 9th through Monday, April 23rd for underprivileged elementary kids. Help us reach our goal of 500 books. The English teacher who collects the most books will receive enough cookies and milk for all of their classes.
  8. MARIEMONT’S WOMENS LACROSS TEAM brought it’s record to 2-0 with a resounding 13-7 win over the Mason Comets Satuday. Senior captains Kaila Roberts and Elizabeth McCracken led Warrior scoring with 5 goals each on the day. Alice Barnes, Madison Safin and Allie Howe rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. The star of the game, however may have been a Warrior defense that smothered Mason and kept them to only one goal in the first half. Senior captain Catherine Kemper, Polly Brittingham, Katie Miller, Kendal Hardin and Abby Moreton were relentless on the Comet offense and the few attempts that did get through were put down by freshman keeper Julia Whittlsey who had an outstanding day with 9 saves on 16 shots.

  3. There will be a U4U meeting in Mrs. Leatherwood’s room on Wednesday after school. We will be discussing our success thus far as well as making plans for our next events! Be there! 
  4. The boy’s lacrosse team is off to a solid start winning two of their first three games. Contributing for the Warriors were Jimmy Beach and Macko Saffin each with 11 goals, Max Long with 10 goals, Cal Fries with 5, Bill Bausmith with 3, Cole DeCamp with 2 and Griffin Rolander, Charlie Kraftt and Ryden Lewis each with 1 goal. Joe Rolander has racked up 19 saves. Up next: this Wednesday night versus Elder in the Purple Panther Pit at 5:30 and 7:30 pm.

  7. CONGRATULATIONS to the Mariemont High School Concert Orchestra who earned a Silver Rating at the San Diego, California, Worldstrides Heritage Festival during spring break. Another CONGRATULATIONS to the Chamber Ensemble who earned a Gold rating. In addition, two of our string players were awarded maestro awards by the adjudicators at the festival. They were Peter Laug and Caleb Middlebrook. 
  8. The Varsity Baseball team defeated Finneytown yesterday with a score of 12-2. 
  9. This Thursday Book Club will be having a Hunger Games face off discussing the book series, the movie, and which was better. We invite all fans of the series to join us for this lively discussion starting at 7:00 a.m. in the lower library...and may the odds be ever in your favor!
